Move Over, Wizards
It's official! 11.21.08 looks so much sweeter, don't you think?
And this is a note from Stephenie Meyer herself that appeared on her website:
So, many of you have heard that the release of the sixth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, has been moved from this Thanksgiving to next summer. First and foremost, please know that this schedule change has absolutely nothing to do with Twilight, me, or Summit Films (so enough with the imdb death wishes, okay?). This is Warner Bros. decision, and it was not motivated by anything Twilight-related.
Now for the good news! Though we're all sad to have to wait for Harry Potter, this open spot at the theater creates a cool opportunity. The good people at Summit were thrilled to let me know that now Twilight fans are going to get their movie three weeks earlier than scheduled. That's right—Twilight will be released in theaters November 21st! Let the merry-making commence!
It is a bit strange that Summit and company is going to have to change all of the dates on their merchandise. Oh well. :)
Recent Edit: Baha. I've been snooping around, reading Twilighters' reactions to the new closer date. Most people had a similar response to mine: "OME, HECK YES! THREE WEEKS LESS! THANK YOU HEAVENS ABOVE...AND SUMMIT~!" But what had me laughing was a few people's comments that went something like this: "Gah, now my T-shirt has December 12th on it and it's wrong! *sobsob*" or this: "That was my brithday, darn it!!! *more sobs*" and this: "I've had December 12th stuck in my head and now Novemeber 21st sounds weird. Change it back! Wah, wah!" Man, some people are so self-absorbed. Can't they realize that the movie we're all bursting ourselves over is SOONER and get past the fact that their petty plans (plans, I may add, that are are a bit premature, considering December is...far away) are no longer in play, or their Twilight apparel has (*gasp!*) the wrong date on it? The wait for the Twilight movie has been minimized. Be.Freaking.Happy. *frolicks around*
And of course, there are so many people curling up in the fetal positon in a corner over Harry Potter coming out in nearly a year. I feel for them. It was a greedy move by Warner Bros. In their heads they're thinking: please the fans? And not get a billion million dollars? As hell! It seems Twilight cares a bit more about their fanbase. And frankly - Harry Potter Shmarry Potter. Sure, the movies are pretty good, but I wasn't that excited for it. I can wait a year if it means Twilight is a tad earlier. Is that cruel? I'm cruel.
